Lightning Pee Wee's

Regular Season 2015

Who are PeeWee's?

The PeeWee age level (11 & 12 years born in 2004/2005) is the initial year of 12 man football.  This level focuses on fundamentals, physical development and 12 man strategy. They play on a standard size field (65 yds x 110 yds) and play four, 12 minute quarters (regular stop time).

This level follows the fair play rules that are set by the MMFA. Fair play rules ensures that every player on offense or defense plays for a minimum of 50% of the offensive/defensive plays.

Scores and standings are kept. Typically there are around 20 to 24 PeeWee teams in the league (some clubs have more than 1 team) with the finals played during Football Manitoba's Championship weekend.

Teams play 8 or more regular season games starting around the middle of August. The top 8 teams in each division qualify for playoffs which take place in October. The playoff format is currently 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc.

Players specialize in positions, either on offense or defense. However, there is the flexibility to play more than one position during the season and individual games.

As a general practice, practices begin in late July or early August (roughly 3 weeks prior to the start of the season). PeeWee teams typically practice 3 to 4 times per week and play games on Saturdays or Sundays. Practices are generally 2 hours or less. Teams are designated as "Saturday" teams or "Sunday" teams before the start of the season. The number of practices may also vary based on the time of year and need (such as 4 practices per week before the initial game of the season and 3 per week after that. The number of practices and duration are at the discretion of each individual coach.
